Sujet Poisson (After Picasso), 2017/19
Glazed earthenware, hand-blown glass stem and bowl
5.50 x 4.00 x 8.50 inches
Edition of 50

Guy Overfelt’s series of “Picasso” stem from the artist’s realization that the ceramics the modernist master began producing in the 1950s would make structurally sound "utility". Overfelt began making near-exact replicas of Picasso’s ceramic works, altering them slightly to make them functional.

This particular example is modeled after Pablo Picasso's 1952 terracotta Sujet Poisson. It was executed in an edition of 50, painted with black and white engobe, and each comes with a custom hand-blown glass stem, designed to fit perfectly to the contour, as well as a hand-blown slip-fit bowl. Each stamped and marked 'Edition Picasso / Madoura Plein Feu / Edition Picasso / Madoura.
